Game Jam Definition: A game jam is a contest where participants try to make a video game from scratch including all artwork, music and sounds, and gameplay logic. Participants are generally programmers, game designers, artists, writers, and others in game development-related fields. Traditionally, game jams are limited in time. Many game jams are no more than 48 hours. Participants may choose to avoid sleep or take only short naps so that the majority of time may be spent creating the game.
Pandorum
Pandorum is a game I made with a few other people for the Global Game Jam 2020. It is essentially a PvP race to survive. Each player gets to explore three levels of a sinking ship. On each level there is a water outlet, a valve, and a two light switches. There are also three key items that the players must find, a repair kit, a wrench, and a dive suit.
Gameplay: The player loses if their area becomes filled with water first. On each floor there is a valve which will begin to let water into the other player's corresponding area. To open the valves one must first find the wrench. To stop the water, a repair kit must be found and used on each open inlet. The final item, a dive suit, can be found and used to assist in underwater repair/sabotage. The two light switches in each section correspond to the player and their opponent based on the color. A switch may be flipped to turn on/off a player's own or opponent's light in that section. WATCH OUT for falling crabs! They paralyze the player on touch for 5 seconds!
Controls:
Blue Guy: WASD for movement, spacebar to jump, f to interact with the wall objects, and 1 and 2 to store items in the corresponding slots.
Red Guy: Arrow keys for movement, numpad 0 to jump, numpad . to interact with the wall objects, and numpad 1 and 2 to store items in the corresponding slots.
Creepy Hearts Club
Creepy Hearts Club is a puzzle game where the player's heart seeks to avenge their death. It was made for Wyoming Game Jam 2019 by myself, Kyle Summerfield, and Sabrina Kaufman. It requires the player to strategically take over other beings with the correct qualities to get past the murderer's body guards.
Gameplay: The gameplay is simple, move around with WASD, click on NPC's with the left mouse button to talk to them. NPC's which are seeking the player's current qualities will be willing to follow the player around, they are also vulnerable to be taken over by the player. To take over an NPC simply click the right mouse button. If there is an NPC which is needed to progress but the player does not have the correct qualities they will refuse to follow the player and are not vulnerable to be taken over. However they may be tagged for later use by clicking the middle mouse button. As the player gets closer to the goal required characteristics will increase. The player will lose their chance to avenge their death if the timer runs out.
